Filipino lifestyle channel launches on Time Warner Cable

Share

Filipinos living in Los Angeles and San Diego can now tune in to a primarily English-language channel called the Lifestyle Network, which launched this month on local Time Warner Cable systems.

The new channel is owned by ABS-CBN International, a subsidiary of the largest broadcasting company in the Philippines. Based in Redwood City, Calif., ABS-CBN International has operated in the U.S. for two decades and runs the Filipino Channel. The Lifestyle Network will be a blend of programming from the Philippines, the U.S. and other countries.

Programming is scheduled to include coverage of concerts and local festivals, a food show called “Chef’s Table,” a lifestyle magazine program called “Us Girls,” and the news program “The World Tonight.”

More than 1.5 million Filipinos live in California, with nearly half residing in the greater Los Angeles region. San Diego and Santa Clara counties also have large Filipino American communities.

“We recognize that The Filipino Channel needed a companion specialty channel that caters more to Filipinos who are looking for programming that addresses personal improvement, individual empowerment and expansion of one’s world,” ABS-CBN North America marketing executive Jun Del Rosario said in a statement.

Time Warner Cable has been tweaking its programming lineup. The company is trying to maintain customers, in part by adding destination channels. Time Warner Cable is spending tens of millions of dollars a year in its push into local sports programming with a channel devoted to the Los Angeles Lakers and another planned to televise Los Angeles Dodgers games beginning next season.

The Lifestyle Network is found on Channel 683 in Los Angeles and Channel 691 in San Diego for Time Warner Cable digital customers.
